the weekend was quite fun. it was generally meant for work but it didn't turn out to quite the case. on saturday, i had gone down for a marathon 2 hr game with bryan and was feeling quite stretched and satisfied after that. he's a really good player for his age and u can imagine this primary one boy taking on his dad and his brother, who are both about twice his height. then my dad suggested going down to catch the s'pore open at the indoor stadium. at first i was reluctant but on second thoughts i decided to go down too. i had initially decided to do my work and study for my tests but the s'pore open only comes once a year and it was too good to miss out. trooped down there, paid 9 bucks for the students' entry fee and spent the whole afternoon there watching the semifinals. out there on display, was world-class badminton being dished out by world class players.they are mostly from china and the standard of play is just awesome. some of the play that was produced between equally matched players can only be dreams for some of us. badminton: a game for the quick and creative.
one thing i've got to say is that i've never seen this before. i've heard about it but kinda forgotten about it till now. autograph-chasers, running after players to get their autographs. ok, they weren't mad or what, hugging their stars or whatever, but it was just them being so crazy, others were there for the action on the courts, theywere there for action too, just a different kind of action, off-court action. i was certainly astounded by what i saw. besides, for the better part of the afternoon, seated behind my dad, brother and i was this group of girls who were making comments about the players at the rate of 3 words in a second. they were talking incessantly and it was a little difficult to keep track of the competition. they were just going on and on and on. aiyahz, i felt like turning around to tell them to lower their volume, but that wouldn't have been very pleasant.
in contrast to them, the other's at the s'pore open(audience) were quite strange and indifferent. in a mostly male audience, apart from the occassional wife or gf accompanying her man, stoic faces and emotionless faces ruled the day. after long and ardous rallies by they players, all these people could only look on with that same expression. i was quite mystified, how could they watch such hot action without a glimmer of reaction... weird..
i'm still asking that question.
