one more day to school repoening.. mixed feelings, but i can't wait for the exams to come and be over in a flash.. it's gonna be really satisfying to know that the end is in sight. having completed a levels, doing it well, getting it over and done with, then moving on with the more exciting things, like ns and later, university studies... but for now, i can wait for it to come.

i've been thinking, this world, is interesting. we have all had some experience with history, and it is without a doubt that we do know that wars have taken place before our time and the lessons to be learnt from them. the war in iraq is yet another war in our rather fractious existence as human beings. we aren't able to live together harmoniously. for our different races, cultures, practices and religions, we find ourselves experiencing a lot of friction.

the latest beheading in iraq, that of the poor south korean, shouldn't be too surprising. in war, in an attempt to get a point across, people get desperate and commit extremely barbaric acts. but we shouldn't be too surprised should we? the japanese and germans are the most famous practitioners of barbaric atrocities in the past century. one hundred years is a short time in our 2000 year history. it isn't that we must go about accepting such acts as the norm or try to sympathise with these demented people.

i feel we shouldn't overreact. the south korean reaction, is shameful. this also brings to mind the japanese reaction when the three japs were captured earlier this year. why the let's mind our own business attitude? y can't the need for tyrants to be eradicated be seen and acted upon? is the country so split? it is saddening that love for our own countrymen is not present... like the black eye peas croon... ' where is the love? '

so my fellow singaporeans, will u call for ur govt's head the moment a singaporean soldier is feared to be in the enemy's hands? or will u stand up and condone the enemy, with the parallel thought that u think u can scare us by taking our own, the rest of us are here to be counted, and we will stand till the end..

which is which? will the real singaporean please stand up...
