the past week has been a good time for me to learn about the 80s. i was born in that decade, but hardly remember things that took place then. the passing of Ronald Reagan has certainly opened up my eyes to the world as it was some 20 years ago. some world it was then..

i was etched to the tv screen for some 2 hours last night, had intended to have an early night in order to rise early to train, but i had to watch this. i was watching the state funeral of Ronald Reagan. he is indeed revered in the us, and he has had some outstanding achievements that surpass the ordinary achievements of other people. of course, in his time, there were plenty of things to do, and u know, no one really ever praises you more about ur good deeds until the time has come and past, when it is time to remember you.

i now know, he was the great liberator, the great communicator; gosh, he's such a handsome man. a hollywood actor, a lifeguard, a sportman. from guvner of california, he went on to become America's president for eight years. i now know, he ended the cold war, changed the soviet union we all used to know, and paved the way for Russia to come to fore.

i was especially touched by the speeches made by Lady Margaret Thatcher, the former Canadian Prime Minister and of course George W Bush Senior. such accolades and high praise, the different speech patterns they employed, were different and varied, it was indeed enjoyable hearing them talk. i believe the National Cathedral was possibly the most 'powerful place' in the world for those few hours during the service. all the top leaders in the world, gathered there to remember the life of one of their greatest.

being a leader is no easy task, but i believe Ronald Reagan revelled in his job, in his easy manner, using charismatic charm, and enjoyed his time at the top, very much. really, as i compare the current george w bush, the president of the us, it is his style of speech that irks me. he pauses so long after each comma or full stop, as if trying to let the point sink in. please, people aren't that slow and he can really afford to speak faster. all the primary school english teachers will be scolding him if they could. but if u can get ur point across, and u r the president, no one can touch you.

yeah, and we can expect Singapore's next State Funeral to be the grandest we have ever seen, probably 3 day holiday even.

leaders are few and far between. Ronald Reagan, one that i unfortunately didn't get to know till the past week, was one heck of a leader. I hope the big fellow up there takes care of him.

bless you all.
