i got over my first biathlon. it was more trying considering i was sick with a runny nose and a really uncooperative throat. it was the nus biathlon held at sentosa.

there were like some 9000 pple there, lots and lots of people and tanjong beach was packed 2 the max, athletes, friends, gfs,bfs and family all there. i was truly fascinated by the whole scene of people. i got my biathlon experience( maiden) to a health start by making for the movable toilet. my friend from chevrons' got into the queue first and by the time i was done with my troublesome stomach, i could register and collect my free gift pack. we were there early and lucky to, coz the queue just got longer and longer and soon, pple were lining up in the hot sun. gosh, it's the first time i've seen so many super fit people gathered together. i count among the unfit. while i do get to see this at swimming nationals' n soon to be in the army, it was freaky to see so many sports crazed people. while some people may think that a biathlon is simply pure torture, it is a personal challenge and even passes of as a necessary fix for others.

my swim was poor. i lost direction on countless occassions and was always redirecting myself. and for getting too close to this fellow swimming on three counts, i got a whack on my upper lip courtesy of his elbow. but although it was poor, it enabled me to finish in the top half of my wave, and please note, there were 8 waves, of which 5 were for men's open comprising of 130 odd people per wave. that was just the swim. the run pushed me to the back totally and i was over taken by some 20 others as i struggled to complete the 5 km run. it's audacious and i actually stopped 4 times. just for my own sake, i pushed myself and overtook 2 guys at the end. i took about 48 mins to complete the 800m swim and 5km run, 16 mins for the swim and 30 plus minutes for the run. i believe it can be better.

i'll be taking part in the singapore biathlon, more personal torture on the way. that will be a 1.5km swim and a 10km run. hopefully, i'll do the run better this time around.
